How to get a smooth hair and reduce frizzy hair - My hair care routine
Haircare is an important topic to be dealt with. This fast-paced technology driven life has took a major toll
on our hair. Its very crucial for us take to good care of them to protect from
all the environmental hassles. This post deals with my haircare routine to
maintain my locks the way they are.
Before stepping into my haircare routine let me tell you
guys about my hair type because that would help you to understand the routine
much better.
Whats my hair type?
My hair is very thick and textured hair (not poker straight
and waves at the ends). My hair type is normal and silky in nature. When I
don’t take good care of them it might end up frizzy and slightly rough
especially if I get dandruff, it just behaves so crazy. I make sure to
condition my hair properly to maintain my thick mane healthy and smooth. I wash
my hair twice a week (after every 3 days).
What Shampoo I use for a clean scalp?
This is the hair care routine that am following at the
moment. I usually tend to switch my shampoos a lot but this recent shampoo that
I use has started to become my Holy Grail product. Not sure if I would switch
up my shampoo anytime soon. Okay let’s stop the talking and breakdown my
routine.
The shampoo I use is Matrix scalppure shampoo for dandruffcontrol. It retails for Rs. 345 for 200 ml of product.
I actually started to notice much dandruff few months back.
Then I used a DIY hair mask to get rid of my dandruff which I will talk about
in the later stages. It worked only momentarily and dandruff just kept showing
up within the next wash. So I randomly saw this shampoo in store and thought to
give it a try. Usually I don’t use dandruff shampoos at all because most
anti-dandruff shampoos I tried in the past just made my hair so dry and rough.
So I always had this idea in mind like anti-dandruff shampoos dry out hair.
I just picked this thinking I could use it just once a week
but I must admit it proved me wrong. It didn’t dry out hair in any way and my
hair felt so squeaky clean, fresh and soft when I used this shampoo. So I continued
using this and my hair has never been this clean ever. Even if I leave my hair
unwashed up to 4 days, my hair still didn’t get oily or no white residue
whatsoever.
Overall am in love with this shampoo nothing much to
complain. Only downside maybe, this shampoo contains sulfates and parabens. So
if you are someone who is concerned about that, this may not be the one for
you. I personally don’t have a problem with having these ingredient in my
shampoo as anyways am going to wash it off in few minutes. Not a big deal for
me.
Oh and I forgot to mention, this shampoo smells amazing too.
It has peppermint extracts in it and my hair smells minty and fresh until next
wash. I would definitely recommend this product to people suffering from
dandruff and even if you aren’t, please give it a try as it gives a real clean
feel to hair.
What Conditioner I use to smooth my hair?
I have tried conditioners from different brands (drugstore
to high-end). At the end of last year I started using the conditioners from OGX
and ever since there’s no turning back. All of their shampoos &
conditioners are infused with argan oil which nourishes the hair and keeps it
healthy. I have used their shampoos as well and they smell so good and hydrate
the hair. The one am using right now is the Macadamia oil conditioner from OGX which retails at Rs. 725 for 385 ml of product.
They have different varieties in their range and almost all their hair products
are worth every penny. This conditioner is very creamy and at the same time
feels light on the hair. It does not weigh down my hair which is something I
look for in any conditioner.
I use this every time after I shampoo, apply onto the
lengths of my hair and leave for 5 mins while I wash rest of my body. Do not
apply conditioner on scalp at any cost. After 5 mins, I wash it off thoroughly
until I see no bubbles in the water.
This conditioner does a decent job but I loved the Argan oil conditioner from OGX much better than this. Maybe I would use this Macadamia conditioner until its over and not repurchase this again. I will try any other variant from OGX.
What Serum I use to tame frizz?
Am currently having 2 serums which I use for my hair. One is Matrix biolage deep smoothingserum which retails at Rs. 275 for 100 ml of product. Other serum is Argan Oilof Morocco weightless healing dry oil which retails at Rs. 725 for 118 ml of
product.
For regular use I prefer Matrix serum which I apply after
every wash. I am head over heels in love with this serum. When my hair is
semi-dried I use this serum through the ends on my hair and whatever is left
over in my hands I apply on the top section on my hair. This did not make my
hair oily, its super lightweight and absorbs into hair instantly. It tames fizz
and flyaway’s to a decent level and adds nice shine to the hair. I have
recommended this product to some of my friends who has different hair type than
mine and all of them seemed to love it as much as I do. It’s worth more than
the money we pay for it. It’s very affordable and lasts for more than 6
months. Definitely worth a shot.
I use my OGX serum very occasionally in case I need extra
hydration in the ends of my hair. It’s actually oil in a weightless serum form.
It absorbs into the hair deeply and makes hair super shiny, hydrated and
frizz-free.
Both these serums does not contain any harsh chemicals and
hence it’s safe to use on every type of hair. They did not weigh down my hair
and i didn’t observe any damage or hair fall with using these serums.
If you ask me to suggest any one out of these, no doubt it
would be the matrix one. Hands-down, the best serum in the market with
affordable price and goodness.
Those are all the products I use on my hair. Now that you
know what I do to my hair post-wash, let’s see what I do pre-wash.
My Pre-wash Routine:
I oil my hair before every wash. I use oil made by myself
using mix of various oils and essentials oils. I got this recipe from a blog
which I read here. You can check that for yourself. If you cannot make this
oil, just apply coconut oil or sesame oil or any oil of your liking. You can
leave the oil overnight or apply 2-3 hrs before hair wash. Apply oil all over
the hair and gently massage your head with fingertips for blood circulation
through your scalp. This will promote hair growth and reduce hairfall.
I don’t like using hairpack because I feel really difficult
to wash it off my thick and long hair. Recently I have been using a DIY
hairpack on alternate washes. As I mentioned earlier I majorly started this to
get rid of dandruff but surprisingly it made my hair super soft than usual. The
hairpack I use is simple and cheap. It’s Apple Cider Vinegar (cost differs from
brand to brand, feel free to choose any as per your liking) mixed in water.
Pour 1/3rd of Vinegar into a spray bottle and fill 3 times with
water. Always remember whenever you use vinegar for hair or skin, dilute it
with equal or more quantity of water. Never use it directly as its concentrated
and might irritate your hair and skin.
If you dilute with water it’s perfectly safe to use. Leave
it on for 30 mins and wash your hair as usual. You will notice a great
difference in the texture of your hair. It feels so soft, smooth and shiny. Try
it for yourself to know the difference.
Tips and Tricks to tame frizzy hair:
1. Do not rub your hair vigorously with cotton towel when
your hair is wet after wash. Instead use a cotton t-shirt to gently squeeze the
wetness from the hair and leave it to air dry.
2. Do not skip conditioner after shampoo. This step is very
important to provide hydration to your hair. In case your hair is very dry or
damages use a deep conditioner like L'oreal Professionnel Liss Unlimited Masque. Feel free to choose any
as per your liking.
3. Do oil your hair without fail before every wash. It will
provide extra nourishment and protect your hair from dryness, damage, hair fall
and graying.
4. Do not expose your hair to extreme sun as it might suck
the moisture from the hair and make it dry and dull-looking. Make sure to apply
a heat protect-ant before going out in the sun or cover it with a scarf.
5. Do not use heat and styling tools often in your hair.
This will make your hair frizzy and damaged with regular use. Use it
occasionally and make sure to use heat protect-ant before styling.
6. Do try to avoid hair colouring as it may damage the hair.
In case you have coloured, make sure to take good care of them by using colour
protect hair products and deep condition the ends of your hair regularly.
That’s it guys. I hope have covered everything. Do follow
the tips I have mentioned to reduce frizziness in hair and get a smooth hair.
Also, I dont use any hair styling tools not even a blow dryer to dry my hair
and I haven’t coloured my hair anytime.
I hope you find this post helpful. If any doubts, do comment
below your questions.
